Martin County VFW Post 1222 History
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 is proud to celebrate over 76 years of service.
Post 1222 was originally organized, incorporated and the Charter issued on October 10, 1930. Our first meeting place was in the Fairmont Hotel located on North Avenue, later we moved to the basement of the Peerless Laundry Building on North Main Street and then to the basement of the Fairmont Creamery building on North Avenue. In 1948 a group formed the Community Veterans Incorporated and raised $100,000 for the construction of the building that is still our current Post Home on 301 South State Street.
Our Ladies Auxiliary was chartered January 27th, 1933, and continues to be quite active.
Fairmont Post 1222 is also the home of four past State Commanders: John McNerney 1945-1946, Ray Kesler 1953-1954, Edwin Meyer 1963-1964, and Harold Genrich in 1974-1975.
