Those of you that have been following the post activities know that we have had a couple of offers to buy the post home building. There was a notice mailed out in June announcing the vote to be held on July 13th. The vote was held on and the motion to sell was defeated. The prospective buyer then raised their offer from $500,000 to $600,000. There was a vote to commission an architect to make conceptual drawings showing a plan to remodel the former Kentucky Fried Chicken in to a smaller, handicapped accessible club and restaurant. Another letter was sent out to bring the sale up on the post floor at the October 12th meeting. The vote was close, but the motion to sell was defeated for a second time. At the present time there are no further plans to do anything with the building.
We are serving food downstairs, there is a burger night every Thursday with a very good 1/3 pound burger and fries for $4.00. We also have a larger menu on Friday and Sunday nights, primarily for the bingo players, but open to anyone. There are currently plans to expand the food to Tuesday and Wednesday nights through the pool season if enough volunteers can be found to man the kitchen.
We will be having the annual Veteran's Day dinner on Wednesday the 11th again this year. The meal will be a light lunch and will be at a reduced rate. The cost for non veterans will be $5.35 and the cost to veterans will only be $3.50. The veteran's rate is not for VFW members only, it will apply to anyone that has a card proving they served in the military.
One of our members, George Janssen, has won the Exchange Club's book of Golden Deeds award for this year. There will be a dinner in George's honor on Monday evening, November 16th. It will have a meal catered by Vetter's catering, the menu will be ham and chicken. The ceremonies will be held at the Fairmont United Methodist Church, beginning with a social hour at 5:30. Tickets for the event will be available from Exchange Club members, at the VFW Club or at the Methodist Church office. The tickets are $10.00 and include the meal and entertainment. This is a good way to honor George for the many years of service he has given to the VFW.
